Conservation
Wild animals are at risk. And we play an important role in protecting them. Scientists have found that a third of all animal and plant species on planet Earth face a high risk of extinction during this century. Extinction - that is, extinction from our planet - forever! That is why we must take care of them.
The mission of zoos is, in accordance with the law of the European Communities, to contribute to the conservation of the biological diversity of wild animals by keeping them in human care, with particular regard to the conservation of endangered species. This is connected with educating the public to protect nature.
Use the links in this section to learn more about what we do specifically for nature conservation.
